Systems/Web Programmer

The London Mathematical Society (LMS) requires a systems/web programmer
for six months, to develop software needed for setting up a new electronic
journal. The journal aims to be a top quality publication which exploits
the possibilities of the web for formats that are not possible in printed
journals. This is an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of a rapidly
developing side of scientific publishing. The London Mathematical Society
is the foremost British learned society in the field of mathematics,
and publishes several leading mathematical journals of record.
Candidates should have a degree in Computer Science or an equivalent
subject, and technical expertise in Internet and Multimedia technologies.
Some prior knowledge of Java, PERL and TeX is desirable, but the LMS
will provide opportunities for the appointee to learn these languages to
the needed level. Experience of any of electronic publishing, Internet
security or database systems would also be a benefit.
The appointee will spend twelve weeks working with a team of specialists
at the Open University's Knowledge Media Institute.

The salary will be in the range #20,000--25,000 p.a., depending on experience.
