UKOLN is pleased to announce that work starts on the National Agency for
Resource Discovery scoping study on 27 January. The successful bid to
carry out the study was made by a consortium led by Fretwell-Downing
Informatics and CERLIM at the University of Central Lancashire. The other
members of the consortium are Geoffrey Hare (Essex County Librarian and
EARL Council Chair) and Index Data (consulting and software development
enterprise based in Denmark).
The aim of the study is to define a service to facilitate effective access
to the UK scholarly resource. The report will be completed by the
beginning of April 1997.
The study is being jointly funded by the British Library and JISC, and
managed by UKOLN. The need for a National Agency was identified at the
MODELS 3 workshop in July 1996 and it was recommended that a scoping study
should be undertaken. Further information can be found at:
