I've come across what is probably a nit in the DC definitions. But I would
like to see it resolved because it affects a related Z39.50 proposal.
In general, a "metadata record" or "document descriptor' (as we call it in
ZDSR), etc. is, roughly, a set of metadata elements about a ..... what?
an "object" or a "resource"?
That's the discrepancy, and I don't care which it is as long as it's
consistent. (Please pardon me if this question has come up before. If so, I've
missed it.)
Examples:
Title: This element is the name of the object ....
Description: ... textual description of the content of the resource, ...
Creator: ... information about the persons and/or organisations
responsible for the intellectual content of the object ....
Editor ... an editor of the resource ...
And so on. Object and resource are used interchageably, and I would like to
see one of these selected and used consistently.
We're about to propose several new elements to the general tagSet for Z39.50,
for example, languageOfObject (or is that languageOfResource?). The language
one is important: we can't just call it language, because we need another
element to decribe the language of the record.
Thanks.
