Boccaccio in his later life suffered from dropsy and scabies, but I
don't think the resultant obesity peeling (which he talks about in
revolting detail) are really oniony.
Does Petrus de Crescentiis have anything on onions? Likewise Pliny
the Elder?
Boccaccio's big vegetable symbol for male sexual potency is of course
the leek! Spes in Allio?
