I must just eagerly endorse Scott's enthusiastic review of the
Lightman/Higgins gig at the Three Cups last Tuesday. Really, one of the
finest performances we've seen there recently.
My colour vision must be different to Scott's - I construed the game board
as black & vermilion, rather than blue & orange. From my memory of Ira's
explanation, the rules of the game are that, if you throw an even number
you move one of your pieces into the oppositely-coloured half of the
square, and if you throw odd you move one in the opposite direction. (or it
might be the other way around) When both players have all their pieces in
the opposite half, more pieces are brought into play, and the number
brought in follows the Fibonacci series: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc. I was told
this was the first occasion on which they'd got past the "5" level.
Potentially, the game continues till infinity. There are no winners or
losers.
