Wrote an "intro" to Language poetry for an Australian journal a few
years ago. Apart from the usual objections, some complained that it
was too "difficult", others that they had been neglected (in the
Australian context that is), and so on. What was most interesting
was how names mentioned (or not!) became fetishised. An article that
talked about "the group" and not the individual became a focus point
for a personality debate. I'm reading a great book by W.H. Thorpe
on bird-song at the moment - the chapters "Development of Song in the
Individual" and "Specific and Sub-specific Differences in Vocalisation"
seem strangely relevant in this context.
I agree though that "cross-over" should take place.
