Patricia Farrell's paper "So what's so good about Karen MacCormack?"
used Karen's work, those elegant structures, as the basis for a desire
for Lyotard's figural IN language; and for something like an A signifying
semitotics (in DeleuzoGuattarian sense) in language: an attempt by a
visual artist to discover something to overcome the root of all evil
(route?), which she defined as Language.
She also launched an attack on feminist writing and feminist readings as
reductive and irrelevant to these concerns. Ms Farrell remarked that her
gender was her affair; who am I to comment?
The argument about gender revolved about whether ylou could see
gender traces in women's linguistically innvative poetry. Most couldn't.
(But the theme is returned to later in the day, in these despatches also).
