I'd just like to reiterate the general note of optimism in Miles'
latest(steady on there Miles!) I too have little to contribute to the "Do
people follow..." deabte; life down here in Devon is obviously very
different to the London Readings situation. I'd just like to say that we've
never had a problem generating funding, or an audience for events whether
they be 'straight' poetry readings, poetry and music, performance, film,
film and poetry etc..Of course, there are the usual irks: for example, none
of Exeter's students ever turn up (though some of the Dartington crowd do
which is great) though we don't expect them to now. The rest of the
audience seem happy coming to either readings from cris cheek and the
London Guitar Trio, or John Burnside and Lol Coxhill (not that there should
be any oppositional problems there). Like Miles, the readings get
advertised on the list, we send out a few fliers, phone friends etc. and
anywhere between 30 and 80 people turn up. There is dialogue. there is
cross-fertilization.
Keep it coming Miles.
