I'm interested in the modern manifestations of (possible) pastoral. OK
one in particular - 'X in Old Photographs' - OK even more specific,
for me 'Renfrewshire in Old Photographs' (I notice the talk's been
about London versus the rest of England so far! A Scottish bleat from
me). I've been publishing a sequence of ironic and elegiac prose
poems, filletted of their linking poem poems it's true, in my (and
Raymond Friel's and David Kinloch's) little mag Southfields (there
goes that ironic elegiac pastoral again). Old Photographs, in the
booklet genre, are actually usually of urban subjects but with 'rural'
trimmings, like a blacksmith next to a cinema. Most of the issues
discussed already seem latent in them, though the, er, grammar of the
genre is a little different!
