I remain surprised by today's bouts of guilt and shame on the list but
acknowledge that inclusiveness requires adjustments of tone and style and
so add my few comments here.
Time factor means that I have primarily been a lurker on the list more or
less since its inception, and that I have limited my comments to a few off
the cuff one-liners. I follow John K.'s recent comments that a range of
rhetorical dynamics are both necessary and positive on a list of this kind
and it seems to me that they too are a step on the way to balancing up more
conceptual discussions with a sense of casualness and ease at each other's
diverging views. Some of which can be manifested through quick ironic
exchanges. Without which they would all remain very guarded. And the list
might develop into one dreary well-oiled little concept machine.
Neither the tone nor the nature of comments made yesterday by M and to M
seem to me inappropriate. As a matter of fact they brought out a good range
of new voices. This feels OK by me.
best to all, CB
