looking for a thole in a prynne" as we say in these parts.
Thanks to everyone who's given other sightings. They overwhelmingly point
to the "thole=put-up-with" definition, and my half-remembered
"thole=maintain-silence" definition has to join corn circles, raudive
tapes and the caring face of new labour in the box marked "insufficient
evidence"...
