The discussions on Raworth seem to me to be important. I am currently
reading Clean and Well Lit, and will probably write on this soon; Cris's
reminder of my own stuff on creative linkage reminds ME to apply said
"deceptively simple" concept to Tom's work. (Since I have to Ulli Freer in
the pages of Pages, and to Allen Fisher and Adrian Clarke in my piece at
New Hampshire). I began some notes towards such a piece, but they got
lost in the move Northwards. So I haven't collected my thoughts except
to wonder what valency there might be in my old idea that part of the
performance speed of Raworth is an attempt to by-pass the intellect to
activate the intuitions. (I'm NOT saying such a thing is possible, but that
this is the theory: intllect and intuition are frequently contrasted in Tom's
earlier work....) - that there is a theory of subliminal effect?
And a related point: reading the book on the train I was acutely aware
that in order to "process" the text I was reading it "in my head" at a
SLOWER speed than it would be performed at (by Tom, of course; it
could be verbalised more slowly by someone else). This is a rare
reversal of the normal relation between Out Loud and In Silence. I
wonder what this means.
All for now: if I had this machine at home you'd hear more from me, but at
work: KNOCK KNOCK here's my essay, could you sign this, my third
grandparent has died and I've got to go to the
funeral......................................................
