Subject: AWOL: Bloomsday in Sydney - The parody of Joyce competition
BLOOMSDAY 16 JUNE
Dublin 1904 - Sydney 1997
The parody of Joyce competition:
the Bad joyce Yes competition
The Mystery of the Displaced Metaphor
In celebration of James Joyce's revolution of the structure of the novel,
Joyce enthusiasts all over Sydney are invited to enter the parody of Joyce
competition.
The winner of Bad joyce Yes will be announced at Breakfast of Bloomsday on
16 June (more details later) and will receive a hamper of Jameson Whiskey.
Entries must be of 150 words or less and will be judged by Joyce scholars
who, as 'professors', will recognise bad Joyce parody. Please include your
name, phone number, email address and home address and age (you need to be
over 21 to enter).
Frank O'Conner: "I have an impression that Joyce wrote with a couple of
hundred words before him, each representing some association, and that at
intervals the words were dropped in, like currants in a cake and a handful
at a time, so that their presence would be felt rather than identified."
Sample."He was alone. He was unheeded, happy and near to the wild-wild
heart of life. He was alone
and young and wilful and wild-hearted, alone amid a waste of wild air and
blackish waters......"
All entries will be loaded onto the Bad joyce Yes website
(http://www.ozemail.com.au/~awol/bloomsday.htm ) as they are received and
writers identified by their email address. Journalists are invited to take
part in the fun and will given carte blanche to publish the most
interesting entries in the weeks leading up to Bloomsday.
To enter simply email your entries to [log in to unmask] and use 'Bad
joyce Yes' as your subject
header. You can also mail your enteries to The James Joyce Foundation, PO
Box 104, Kings Cross, NSW Australia 2011.
