The only thing I ever got out of Huges is something that is inordinately
precious to me. Typically, it comes from one of those 'good bits' in
conventional poetry readings (I mean the amusing anecdotal bits between the
skunk-sodden, unamusing 'great poetry'.)
Huhes described how he had once, with friends, experimented with Ouija
surfing (this was what people used to do late at night before the Web was
invented, for those of you too young to remember - it was more
(immediately) social, scarier, but just as spectral). He was scared off
when, one night, they logged on to Shakespeare. To make sure it was really
him, Hues asked what was his favourite line (of those he'd written
himself). S. replied with the subject line of this message (from King Lear).
Clever spirit, and economical... (but does it scan?)
Oh shit, it was probably an suburban myth. But a 'great' story anyway...
... end of anecdote. Back to to verkse ...
