One of the reasons for being off-line (like being off-colour or
out-of-salts or tired)
is when it's difficult to respond
what i wanted to say about involving education in writing seemed to get
subsumed into "which anthology should be used" or "what the exemplars
would be" and this didn't really seem to get to what i was trying to say,
because of the difficulty about being clear about this
we seemed to go down the path of contextualising whether anthologies
should be used in teaching and then the issues of
well what?
plagiary?
context?
perhaps. but seldom issues about what composition means.
or how are aesthetic positions put into practice if they are thought about
and very little about necessity. apparently a lot about indicators of
what has been, well good, but
about the anthologies you make daily and at every session of education.
sub voicive is to run a colloquium.
one subject will be innovation and what is it and
you can see the paradigms piling
what do you innovate from?
i suspect this begins to be about what group of people are being educated
or what is education? who is it and where are they? in a position after
'A' levels or after GCSE or is it later than that? is this already too
late? how old were you when you got excited by poetry and how did that
happen? were you at the university interview for Enlish Lit and had
never read a poem you weren't asked to?
right now John Tilbury plays Howard Skempton. Last night he played (on
CD) Cornelis Cardew, (Skempton's teacher) tonight I may have continued
with a poem in love of this music, but you wouldn't know this, I'm sure
we can find a poetic precedent, but I'm not overtly stating it or knowing
it doesn't consciously express this. it's not raining and I feel wet on
my head and the sound of rain but it's not raining.
Joan Retallick talking to John Cage or Jill Johnston talking to Jasper
Johns or John Cage talking about Jasper Johns or
One of the solutions to this has to do with the idea of research and what
is it and how does it engage personal interest and necessity
anthologies really are what the teacher makes - teach yourself if you
like but it's only a fragment from the context you need.
there needs to we need to get to what this is about.
and i'll come back to it because it is important.
