Rick's point is well taken: that of course a poet should be able to review
the critic-scholar etc. What I meant by "certified poet," though, was the
notion that just because X has published a "certified" book of poems--like
Glynn Maxwell--that he is any position to review, say, Bernstein's
POETICS. We wouldn't do that as readily in the case of an architect or
visual artist: that is, have someone who has had one exhibit at a London
gallery review, say, Rosalind Krauss's latest book. See what I mean?
