Off the wall, Ric, but D.H.Lawrence comes to mind when I hear that word
"thole". I'm trying to recall if it was dubbishire dialect when i lived nr
chesterfield. For some reason, anyway, I recall it from dhl...but where in
that vast body of work? Perhaps in the earlier poems, where Hardy's
influence (employing archaisms) seems greater. Perhaps its in Hardy!? Or
even might try Bridges, "Testament of Beauty"? Or even might try Kipling's
poetry. Thats a lot of haystacks to search for a ingle needle, though.
Unless computers can find words, cant they?
