I think you're quite right, Ken, to point out that innovations in mode by
no means preclude traditional engagements - LP's can of course still write
satirically, with political ardour, etc. But isn't it critical to any
-evaluative- understanding of those projects, to assess how those
innovations restate and amplify their subjects or whether they involve a
default partial relinquishment of them? I liked -My Life- pretty well,
but felt also that it was at times un-usefully distracted (perhaps
through stylistic relevance-abidance? But perhaps not, in this case).
