A selection of artists' books from the National Art Library will be on
display for a study session at the Library next Monday, 7 July, 2.30
p.m. The basis for selection is the poetic text, but excluding works in
which the text is written by the artist responsible for the other
aspect/s of the books. I.e. the emphasis on this occasion is on books as
collaboration and/or response rather than as outcomes of one
all-controlling vision. Objects include 2 versions of Mallarme's Coup de
des, Sonia Delaunay & Blaise Cendrars' Prose du transsiberien, Rafael
Alberti's El negro Motherwell with lithographs by Motherwell, a white
book with a poem by Borges in braille and blind relief prints by
Raymundo Sesma, Ron King & Roy Fisher's magnificent Anansi Company, with
puppets. Etc. About 20 objects in all.
The session will last about an hour and is an opportunity to look at
(and touch, *read*) objects not normally on display, rather than a
high-powered talk.
Tha National Art Library is on the first floor of the Victoria and
Albert Museum, Cromwell Rd., London SW7. Tube is South Kensington.
Regrettably the V&A charges admission of £5, but is free to under 18,
all students, UB40. Concessions to OAPs.
Thanks,
