Since people seem to be taking offence to my explanatory note for Yves
Bonnefoy's name in my puff for my book, let me explain that I work a few
desks away from a guy who reviews poetry regularly for the TLS (does a
certain splenetic dismissal of Iain Sinclair's "Conductors of Chaos"
anthology ring any bells?), and he can't read a word of French, has no
idea who any modern French poets are, etc. In fact, I translated some
very easy French passages into English in The Golden Age at his
suggestion.
So if a regular writer for the TLS (who SHOULD know better, for God's
sake) doesn't know who Yves Bonnefoy is, who can tell?
