Only a man and/or Canadian wholly unfamiliar with recent episodes of
EASTENDERS, (and I refer, specifically, to the traumatic
incapacitation of Joe Wicks), can
enthusiastically celebrate the schizoid state, elevating it above a
denigrated paranoid castration fear. To which I retort, Careful With That Axe,
Orpheus...
Thomas Hardy traversing the desert of the body without organs..? Any
people from Wessex feel aggrieved at that slur?
And news just in from the 1997 Ledbury Poetry Festival (4 July-13
July), featuring (among other events):
an exhibition of manuscripts by Poet Laureate "Ted Hughes";
and a "fine dinner with guest speaker George Melly, champion of the
daring and the new in the arts, celebrating the opening of the
Festival". "The daring and the new" being, of course, white-haired
English whimsy at the fag-end of the Surrealist movement. I`ll see
you all there, in the scrum in front of "Hawk Roosting".
