Dear listmembers,
Our list was opened only eight days ago and is still very quiet, which will
be due both to its tender age and to this special time of the year. But
behind the curtains there have been heavy activities of recruiting and
subscribing, and I am happy to announce that we are now approaching the
number of seventy!
Although it is not really to be expected that our public traffic will
increase enormously during the last days of this waning year, some of you
who will be on leave will want to prevent their mailboxes from being swamped
by eventual masses of list postings during their absence. I therefore take
the liberty to remind you that in order to suspend receiving mail from this
list, all you have to do is to send the command
suspend mail italian-studies
to the address
[log in to unmask]
After your return, in order to resume receiving mail from this list you will
have to send
resume mail italian-studies
to the same address as above. The easiest way to check what has been going
on during your temporary absence (for other ways please consult the
intro-file which you received after having subscribed) is to point your web
browser to the following address where you can consult the mail archives:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/italian-studies/
Newcomers, too, will want to consult these archives to find out whom and
what they have joined. Please do so, and have a look at our impressive list
of members, but also don't forget and don't be shy to introduce yourself by
sending a presentation of your person and research interests to the list.
Should you have any questions or technical problems with the list, you can
reach me at the listowners' address <[log in to unmask]>
or at my private address <[log in to unmask]> until 22 December.
Afterwards, I will be absent for two weeks, and since George is already on
leave and since neither of us two will be able, as it seems, to access our
mailboxes during our absence, the list will probably be on auto-pilot for
some time. But with a list as young and nevertheless as well educated as
ours, I don't expect any problems to arise.
