I had the somewhat shocking experience of sitting through a seminar
in geography by (Lord) Colin Renfrew 4-5 years ago. (An eminence
grise in archaeology, associated with a post-processual school if I
have my somewhat shaky coordinates right).
I say alarming as he was modelling the economy of prehistoric eastern
mediterranean, in terms of *locational analysis*, transport network
models and things I had consigned to beyond the back of my memory. SO
I suppose I was shocked by the type of contact there.
In my current department, there are reasonable links to archaeology.
One is through the study of climatic change and say indicators of
human presence in paleolithic periods. Other links through mediaeval
settlement pattern - though in the latter the geographer concerned
spends much of his time saying he is trying to put a few *facts* in the
way of a pretty post-structuralist archaeologist.
I could supply more details if you wish, in private, but for
reflecting on yopur question I felt the flow of ideas might well have
been from archaeology to geography (say from Tilley or Shanks). Of
course that could be just my normal paranoia.
