Good on you Cristian for alerting this list to the strong tendency
towards myopia in the general drift of the discussion.
It is usually assumed to represent 'mainstream British geography'
including occasional contributions from 'ex-pats'.
Coming from the neighbouring island I can appreciate this tendency
towards limited horizons, but even if we are not all enthusiasts for
the new Europe it would be healthier to promote a broader membership
and view of life.
I belong to this list mainly because I know of no other in the
discipline which is a forum for exchanging ideas among colleagues. I
find that I share few of the opinions expressed on the list, but I
don't see the list as a politically exclusive club. I have a very
broad view of critical geography which probably few others on this
list would share.
I would certainly like to see the discussion broadening beyond issues
like Shell, to look at the many other ways in which people in
countries like Nigeria are having our western ideologies imposed on
them.
