Dear Colleagues,
We are very interested to discuss our development of our programme
"Ecological economy", which we would like to internationalise as much as
possible to enable teacher and student exchange in this field.
Here comes information about the programme "Ecological Economy" that started
autumn 1995 at Mälardalens Högskola. It is the first Bachelor programme in
Sweden in this cross-disciplinary field. The programme is very popular
meaning that a limited number of applicants could be accepted. At autumn
1995 40 studenta were accepted. This semester 60 students started.
The programme is mainly an economic programme and the students get there
Bachelor degree in economics in the field of ecological econmomy. At this
stage the programme follows the following scheme (direct translation of
course titles, from Swedish, can lead to some missunderstanding);
1st semester Introduction in ecological economy (5 weeks), Environmental
Science (5 weeks), Society Planning and Environmental Politics (5
weeks), Scientifid Methods (5 weeks).
2nd semester Economic courses
3rd semester Economic courses (10 weeks), Environmental Methodology (5
weeks), Environmental Law (5 weeks)
4th semester Sociology (5 weeks), Paper in economy (5 weeks), Ecology (10
weeks)
5th semester Planning for sustainability (different 5 weeks courses)
6th semester Ecological economy (cross-disciplinary course) (10 weeks),

Here the students can get there Swedish examination Candidate of Philosophy (FK)
7th semester Ecology (10 weeks), Ecological economy (10 weeks)
8th semester Free choice (10 weeks), Paper in ecological economy (10 weeks)
The intention is to build Masters programmes and doctoral studies in the future.
My place in the programme is being a member of the developmental staff,
mainly responsible for the courses in ecology and together with Dr Peter
Söderbaum and Dr Kjell-Åke Brorson responsible for the development of higher
courses in ecological economy.
Yours Sincerely!
