The Geography Department at Keele is seeking to appoint a Graduate
Teaching Assistant to start in January 1997.
The post is linked to the Geographies of Health, Welfare and Community
Planning research interest in the department, and might also be linked
to the activities of the University of Keele's Centre for Social Theory and
Technology.
The University provides a unique interdisplinary environment for critical
enquires into space, technology, social theory, environmental and
social aspects of health.
GTAs at Keele can normally expect to teach for a maximum of 6 hours
per week in term time (most of this teaching being made up of practical
demonstrating in human geography and/or tutorial teaching). The
University provides in-house training for new teachers and offers SEDA
qualifications for those completing the course. The university also
offers a graduate training programme.

"The Department of Geography seeks to appoint a Graduate Teaching
Assistant with effect from 1 January 1997. Renewable annually up to a
maximum of three years, and covering fees (at present £2490) and
maintenance (at present £5190), the assistantship offers the opportunity
for full-time research leading to a Ph.D.
The appointment is intended to contribute to the development of the
Department's research interest in the Geographies of Health, Welfare
and Community Planning. In particular the department is keen to
encourage research in the following fields.
* GIS and health issues
* past and present geographies of health services and provision
* new geographies of health, welfare and risk
However applications from candidates interested in other aspects of the
research area are welcome.
