Much earlier this year (or late last, can't quite remember) there was some
correspondence on the problems engendered by ejournals, in particular
their printing implications relating to PDF files.
We have been planning (for rather too long!) a study on the impact of
electronic journals on campus printing resources. However, yesterday I
heard it suggested that the original problem was 'merely' due to
non-postscript printers being used, and was being overcome as these are
gradually replaced. If this is true, then perhaps we should not bother
with the study.
I would greatly appreciate some advice from eLibbers on this, particularly
those who have done any serious experimentation with ejournals or other
PDF, Postscript or image-based products on campus networks. I'm not so
interested in those who get great performance on locally attached laser
printers, but I'd like to know if there are still major problems out
there, particularly related to Postscript printers. Thanks for your help,
