Many of you may know this already, and I apologise for cross-posting.
However, it's important to keep everyone up to date.
FIGIT (the Follett Implementation Group for IT) has had its last meeting,
barring emergencies. Although the committee formally stays in existence
until 31 March, 1997, it does not plan to meet again. Any important
business will be conducted by email, telephone etc.
FIGIT's work is being taken forward by the Committee for Electronic
Information (CEI, pronounced key), which also takes over ISSC's portfolio.
In effect, FIGIT and ISSC are being merged as proposed in the new JISC
Strategy. CEI will have responsibility for a wide variety of things
including eLib projects, ISSC services, AHDS, NFF for specialised
collections, monitoring the pilot site licence, etc. CEI has yet to have
its first meeting, and no doubt more announcements on its role will be
made after that.
