I'm glad this issue has arisen because it's been giving me headaches for a while
-- I'm inclined to agree with Paul, i.e. to use 'SCHEME' for 'official' schema
and to use 'TYPE' for just about everything else.
That would then just leave the role of, er, 'ROLE' to be clarified.
