The one thing I like about Ariadne is that I get to keep copyright. This
is nice as it means I've already been contacted about republishing one
article in a book. I've no idea if any of the articles I've published in
printed journals have ever been reprinted and as I had to assign
copyright to most of them I guess I never will.
I'm very happy to let people republish my articles as I write things to
spread knowledge, not make a wad of dosh (if I wanted to do that I'd write
science fiction or something - academic works aren't often blockbusters).
If they make some cash out if then that's their business - good luck to
them. I've let the Ariadne web version editor know this, so if I do
magically disappear, they know that I'm quite happy for people to
republish my work. Gaining and spreading knowledge is after all what
being an academic is all about (isn't it?) and all too often I get the
feeling that traditional publishers restrict this goal.
Tatty bye,
Jim'll
