Dear eLib Project Co-ordinators
Chris Rusbridge and Kelly Russell have suggested ALCS (Authors' Licensing
and Collecting Society) contacts you on lis-elib.
I'm following up the discussion Dafydd Wyn Phillips and I had with Chris and
Kelly on rights clearance for electronic library projects - have you any
comments to make on this topic? We'd like to hear.
We also know that there are some instances where rights can't be cleared via
publishers because they no longer have them, e.g. where material is out of
print or where rights have reverted. We are offering to help eLib Projects
contact authors to get rights cleared swiftly and without complication. This
service is free of charge.
ALCS is a non profit-making organisation that distributes royalties to
individual writers in all disciplines (including academic authors). Last
financial year we distributed £8.9 million to 15,000 writers - the royalties
are from sources where collective administration is the only option.
More comprehensive information on ALCS can be obtained by contacting our
office or by visiting our Web site at:
http://www.alcs.co.uk
Finally, we'd like to hear from any writers in any subject area - we may
have monies for you.
Regards.
Joy Foster
