On the exclusive nature of a distant conference in Vancouver, I assume
people realize there are many people in Canada and the States who cannot
afford to attend the IBG where many of the "critical geographers"
meet, or else events such as the forthcoming Crit Geog postgrad
event/debate. The Vancouver event is an opportunity to bring in some
new people (including poor North American postgrads), and open up the forum
even more. This is also an important opportunity to support (in mind)
because people in the UK do not always realize how much they enjoy the
social benefits of living on a relatively populated and small land mass.
The conference could (if it is planned well) build links between people
who do not have as many opportunities to hook up on a face to face basis.
Just some thoughts after living in England for three exciting years...
Regards,
Kris Olds
