Electronic Reserve Copyright Management System (ERCOMS project at De
Montfort University, UK)

Introduction
The ERCOMS project, funded by the JISC Electronic Libraries Programme, aims to
develop a general purpose electronic copyright management system capable of
working with various electronic reserve systems. The system will provide full tracking
of usage and accountability and automatic counts of the occurrence of copyright
events. Further information can be obtained from our World Wide Web site, URL
http://ford.mk.dmu.ac.uk/.

In the first stage we are conducting a survey of electronic library/on-demand publishing
and electronic reserve projects, including the eLib projects in the Higher Education
communit and the electronic reserve projects in US universities, to obtain information on: management systems; data formats; hardware
platforms; and more importantly, your requirements for a generic electronic copyright
management system

A questionnaire is attached which requires only the briefest of details from you
concerning the technology and copyright management aspects of your project. We
hope that your feedback will help us to develop an electronic copyright management
system which will encourage the development of more electronic libraries/reserves and
greater cooperation with publishers.
