Below is the announcement for the forthcoming Netskills World Wide Web
workshop for medicine and biosciences in London on the 24th May 1996.
The venue is Queen Mary and Westfield College, Mile End Road, London

The workshop introduces the Internet and the World Wide Web - what it
is, how to use it, and how to successfully find quality resources. The
workshop is appropriate for anybody working in the UK HE community who
wants to gain familiarity with the Internet, and is particularly
appropriate for those working in a medical context.

NETSKILLS: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNET Medical & Bioscience
related (SE Region)
The Netskills World Wide Web workshop will take place from 10.00a.m.
until 4.00p.m. on 24th May 1996 at Queen Mary and Westfield College,
Mile End Road, London E1 4NS.
The cost will be 30.00 pounds to cover the cost of workshop
facilities, printed materials and catering (lunch included).
This is a practical workshop for those who require an introduction to
networked information and communication. It is suitable for
researchers, academics, librarians and computing service staff from a
medical/clinical science background.
NOTE: this workshop is aimed primarily at those working Higher
Education institutions. Anyone wishing to attend from outside Higher
Education should contact the Netskills office before returning a
booking form.
THE CONTENT
The workshop will comprise presentations and hands-on sessions with
opportunities for discussion. Participants will receive a workbook
which will contain workshop exercises, presentation slides and other
printed materials. Topics covered will include:
o Basic networking skills
o Networking tools such as World Wide Web
o Accessing networked medical information related to teaching and
research. o Retrieving inexpensive or free software o Searching the
Internet to find relevant information o The issues associated with
using Internet services
THE REQUIREMENTS
Participants need no special technical skills; however some
experience of using a PC in a Microsoft Windows environment
would be helpful.

Queen Mary and Westfield College, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS.
FACILITIES
The machines used for this workshop will be high specification
PCs running Microsoft Windows versions of Networked Information
Retrieval Tools such as Netscape for the World Wide Web.

Unfortunately no email bookings can be taken, as payments must be made
by cheque.
Printed versions of the booking form can be obtained from the
Netskills Office.
The practical nature of this workshop means that places are limited so
bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis.
Cancellations received before 13th May will incur a 20% cancellation
fee, after this date cancellations will incur an 80% fee.
If it is likely that there will be a significant delay before your
institution processes the required cheque, please contact Netskills
beforehand to notify us of your intention to attend.
