We still have a few places left for the forthcoming BILETA
conference. If lis-elib'ers are interested please see our Web pages
or call CTI Law.

*****************************************************
BILETA '96 - Electronic Publishing Conference
- Scarman House, University of Warwick, March 25th-26th, 1996

Further copies of the Conference details are available at the
following Web site;

http://ltc.law.warwick.ac.uk/bileta/conferences/bileta11home.html

Who or what is BILETA?

BILETA stands for the British and Irish Legal Education Technology
Association. It is an organisation that supports the work of UK law
schools in all aspects of information technology.

This year's BILETA Conference (its 11th) turns its attention to one of the
most exciting topics for our organisation, namely electronic publishing.
As a result of developments in new technology, many of us are now able to
set up as publishers. The concept of copyright in particular is becoming
more and more difficult as a legal concept to protect electronic intellectual
property. There are significant cultural changes looming. These are
exciting but also complicated times.

As ever, with BILETA Conferences, we combine our main topic with issues
relating to the uses of substantive technology in legal education. However, we
see many overlaps between the two themes. We hope that this conference will
provide a focus for some of the current debates in electronic publishing, but will
also inspire and motivate delegates in their uses of electronic
publishing technology generally.

We are delighted with the national and international response to our Call
for Papers. As conference delegates you will be hearing papers on electronic
publishing and cultural change, copyright and data protection, electronic
journals in law, uses of the Internet in legal education, case studies on existing
electronic publishing projects and other papers which look to the future.

This year we have also included in our agenda, a series of parallel workshops
on Writing Better Courseware, Getting Started In Electronic Publishing and
Advanced Web interactions. We have a number of exciting demonstrations
provided by both commercial and academic organisations, and a number of
BILETA Special Interest Group meetings arranged. We will also have videos
showing throughout the conference on legal issues relating to technology and
also on uses of technology generally. We are looking forward to a very
successful conference. We hope you find BILETA `96 - Electronic
Publishing to be a worthwhile event.
