I've just watched (open-mouthed) the first of three
programmes on BBC2 about the NHS reforms.
I already knew much of what was presented but there
were many aspects of the reforms about which I was
unaware.
The single most astonishing fact was that all of the
reforms (which have had such an impact on the lives
of doctors, patients and others alike) were basically
masterminded by only a handful of people, none of
whom had any real experience of the NHS, experience
of healthcare in general, or any apolitical motives.
The whole idea of GP fundholding occurred to Ken
Clarke (hiss! boo!) while he was on holiday in Spain
for f*ck's sake!
I think the programme should have carried some sort
of health warning at the beginning:
"Depressed? Disenfranchised? Pissed off? If not, you
will be after watching this."
You gotta laugh, or slit your wrists.
