The Head-buyer extraordinaire told us:

There is also another issue -- when lots of the work is moved from the
"netbox" to the server, you need that much more beefy(*) a server (or
array of servers or whatever) to handle the extra load. What good is a
100Mbps cable when the server can only provide me with 50bps? That is
when I want a local operating system and local hard drive. A "netbox" is
no use if the network can't provide the services, no matter how cheap it
is.
(*)--due to the EC export ban, beefy UK servers will not be available to
the rest of the world. Anyone for a porky server?
