There are several different units available, all perform the same
functions but use different algorithms to determine the SYS/DIA which
is then averaged to give the MAP. The most accurate (in my humble opinion)
and trouble free (from a maintenance point of view) is made by Critikon.
(DINAMAP series)
The trouble w/these units begins w/hospitals or Doctors offices (surgeries
i believe you call them) try to conserve on expenditures and buy a cheaper
cuff whether it be single or double tube from another vendor. these units
are designed w/the cuff being the only variable as far as accuracy is
concerned (don't forget cuff placement and technique-is the cuff snug on the
arm) If the unit is connected to a third party vendors cuff it may have
differences in materials and size.
P.S. stick to the unit's using a major appendage (arm or thigh) for the
most accurate measurements.

Anyone using an automatic sphyg-type thing in surgery?
There seem to be many different types - ones that measure
bp from finger, wrist and upper arm.
I get the impression that they aren't too accurate or
reliable but this impression is not founded on fact.
It would be convenient for patients to insert an index
finger in a little machine and have their bp measured
in a few seconds.
The ones I've played with seem to take forever, whereas
a human can measure the bp with a manual sphyg in a
few seconds.
Any recommendations? (brands, price, etc)
