I have lots of points to make about the NHSnet, and this brings up only one of them.
So ALL the traffic (ie. all email, Web browsing, file transfer, ... you name
it) from ALL NHS staff ie. gps, hospital doctors, nurses, technicians,
administrators etc. etc. is going to go through ONE repeat ONE gateway
run by an EXTERNAL COMPANY
And this is the information superhighway?
Information traffic jam more like it.
And also look at data security - our security is going to be looked after by
BT/Syntegra. Its OUR data - our patients.

PS. as an aside about the Select Committee report, this was a glaring
example of the confusion of three terms:
the Internet
the World Wide Web
the Information Superhighway
The WWW does not equal the Information Superhighway, and presenting it to politicians
as if it was serves no-one.
I glanced through the report a little, and from what I saw there was NO mention
of the bandwidth of the various networks they were talking about.
Demonstrating a video feed over a fibre optic network
DOES NOT mean this can be done to/from an ambulance in the field over a mobile
phone, a la British Telecomm adverts.
