Maternal and Neonatal Emergencies Training (MANET)
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics - Provider Course
Applications are invited from General Practitioners for the second ALSO-Provider course to be held in the UK. The course will be held on the 7th and 8th of September in Durham University.
The ALSO (UK) course is a training programme in the management of Maternal and Neonatal Emergencies delivered in the Advanced Life Support format of an intensive 2 day course with a substantive manual, lectures, discussions and hands on workshops and skill stations.
The MANET Project is a one year project to adapt, introduce and evaluate ALSO training in the UK. The original ALSO course developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has been adapted for the UK environment by a Working Group of GPs, Obstetricians and Midwives. The course is now being evaluated in a Randomised Control Trial.
Each course has 45 students, 15 each of GPs, Midwives and Obstetricians. We invite GPs in particular to apply for this course as we have had some late cancellations. Reaction from participants on the initial course has been extremely enthusiastic and supportive.
There is no course fee but participants will be charged £50 - 75 for the manual, accommodation and all meals
