My conviction is that once they have requested the Med 4 from you, if you
fill it in as "until further notice" they decide that the patient *must*
be fit. They then look up the patient's details. If the patient is not
young, weighing 200 pounds, with a short haircut and tattoos, they tell
the poor sod he/she is fit for work. Tattoed, short haired women get
dealt with separately. The rest they deal with by folding up the Med 4's
to form paper aeroplanes. Any that reach the bin are marked fit for work.
If the case goes to appeal, they always concede, even if the patient
really is fit for work by then.
There is no evidence that the system is totally random, and I don't
believe the stories that the doctor's pay is related to how many folk
they mark fit for work!
