There are glossaries on the net - I located one with YAHOO last year but
have lost the URL. It had some 17,000 entries plus a wish list of acronyms
it had heard of but didn't kow the meaning of, amongst which was HISS.
Adrian Stokes and I produced a slim volume of acronyms and abbreviations
used in health informatics and in the NHS last year (the BJHC Abbreviary)
which ran to some 3500 entries, about 2500 computing-related and 1000 of the
things the young clinical secretary ought to know. Cassell does the Cassell
Dictionary of Abbreviations with 40,000 entries across a wide range of
subjects plus a number of Latin, French, and German abbrevs.
