This will meet at least once a month for 2-3 hours.
How much are other GPs being remunerated for this type of work?"
Cleveland FHSA started paying us on a formal basis last year
for formal advice on groups and committees formed by them,
including commissioning groups, project advisory boards etc.
The amounts were difficult to finalise because of a lack of
understanding of how general practice works......
but run as follows;
£30 per hour for the meeting plus travelling time,
but up to £96 for the meeting if you need a locum
(based on BMA half day rate)
or a max. of £156 for a full day meeting
(again based on BMA rate)
What you don't get is the meeting payment plus the locum cost
- somehow I couldn't get them to buy that one as they logically
worked out that we would still be paid by our practices if the
locum was doing our work. On the plus side, the payments
have been made promptly after the invoices were sent, and
there is a more general recognition that time spent on committees
etc. has a real cost in terms of lost earnings to individuals.
Our next move is to negotiate a contract for the provision of
advice to the HA, so that the administration of the money passes
to the LMC. Whilst I anticipate this being difficult to define, it will
spell out just which representative positions are remunerated
and which are not. There is scope for an increase in the number
of remunerated ones!! It has already been agreed that changes
in needs would lead to renegotiation of the contract figures.
I'll post the final version of the agreement with costings, but it
won't be before the end of September.
