How dare anyone criticise lawyers. Lawyers are brave, honest, hardworking,
good-looking and sweet-smelling. Furthermore, it is hard to think of a group
in society more vulnerable, less able to defend itself, and more open to
cheap jibes and ridicule. It is no more rational to think of an unpleasant
lawyer than to think of a square circle. It simply is not possible. There
has never been, is not, and cannot be in the future a lawyer who is anything
other than wholly committed to the interests of others and society at large.
Long live lawyers. Three cheers for lawyers. Lawyers are playful, cuddley,
furry and form lasting emotional attachments easily and quickly, based on a
perhaps naive but touching belief in the goodwill of human kind.
Doctors - there are non doctors on this list, me included, and this is an
open forum, as the "mailbase welcome message" makes clear. Not all lawyers
are evil, or even badly intentioned. Having written that, I can fully
understand doctors who will now think twice about posting on any topic with
possible legal implications. Why don't our resident legal eagle lurkers, no
doubt somewhat traumatised by all these attacks, to write a brief note of
"free" commentry/advice, of benefit to GP UK doctors, explaining where they
see themselves fitting in to the health care world, and how GPs should react
to their presence on GP-UK.
