My standard procedure. (And of most of my Dutch colleages) is to prescribe
Prednison 5mg 1dd6 for 5 days. Antibiotics if needed. Salbutamol in powder
or spray to inhale. At the same time we start with steroids by inhalation
with a Volumatic.
Injections of steroids are considered unneccessary. Whatever the route of
administration it takes 6 hours before corticostroids start heving an
effect.
The most important aspect of treatment is the suppression of the
inflamation (most often "sterile")
The rigime with corticostroids by inhalation reduced the number of death by
asthma considerably.
