Now, seriously:
What is a classification good for? One of its usual aims is to *group*
information with a purpose. We've been pretty happy with ICPC for
epidemiological and consultation management purposes. Others are going to
start using it for coding procedures (after adequate subdivisions are
created - too broad groups for that now).
I still know little about Read but, by the discussions about it in GP-UK, it
seems to me that codes are being created for classifying things to a great
detail. After a point, I ask, what is the difference between the code and
the object it is supposed to describe? Is Read trying to convert *every*
tiny expression into an individual coding string? And if it is so, what's
the use?
Just doubts. Enlighten me, please.
