Listen folks, there is a decent proposal for you all (Robert Redford
excepted):
I have trawled the CAL and distance learning scene for the past 2-3
weeks looking for material that can be used for GP continuing
education. I am grateful for all those who have contributed to my previous
queries.
There are, like many of you sent information on, a lot of stuff.
Some of it is brilliant, some of it isn't and some of it isn't
appropriate. It is all in bits and pieces all over the place, some
still in unfinished projects, some still in someone's drawer.
What I want to do is to put together about 50 hours of study in an
appropriate multimedia interactive course for GP post-grad education
on a CD-rom. This will, hopefully be updated yearly. 30 hours can
be, of course, accredited for the purpose of education dosh.
Something like "recent advances in.." or "current thinking in..." to
cover main stream clinical medicine as practised by GPs/Family
Physicians and to include the main specialities of our practice, you
know, obs&gyn, paeds, imms, dermatology, therapeutics, etc.
The course will be used to aid the continuing education of isolated
and rural doctors or those who have no easy access to post-grad
facilities in developing countries (and that includes UK, of
course!).
Now, there is a rich and untapped body of knowledge and expertise in
this, most honourable list. Surely we can put together such
material? Each contributing a paper on a subject dear to their
hearts.
I will collate, arrange some funding, commission technical
expertise and multimedia writing up to CD-rom.
It will only take each of us few hours to come up with a paper that
is suitable for continuing education. That can't be difficult, can
it?
Come on, this could be the first large scale, on-line collaboration
for the benefit of GP-kind the world over.
How about starting with a list of headline topics/chapter headings?
