I am presently working as part of the Prodigy team and would be most
grateful for any help information anyone might have.
I have discovered the obvious fact that different types of GPs have
vastly different mind sets concerning the purpose etc of a
consultation.
This causes a slight problem, as any computer system from something
as simple as a prescribing DB to a heuristic inference engine
requires a coding system of some sort. Computers are basically stupid!
Some people would argue that GPs find Read or any coding a problem
because different GPs consider the same code to relate to different
concepts e.g. Ititis media=red ear = bulging drum = pain in neck?? I
think this is a far to simple explanation. Psychologists have heated
debates about the difference between concepts, constructs and
orthogonality of derived sub concepts etc let alone kellys construct
theory etc etc. If you what to know about concepts ask a psychologist
not me, or you, for that matter.
Well what do I want, I would like a simple list of what non computer
minded GPS NOT YOU, THE IT BOFFINS believe tro be the reasons for
seeing patients. (this has nothing to do with concepts etc) I've
asked several, ' Iona Heath - Mystery of the GP' GPs to keep a list
of reasons why they see clients but would like as many as possible.
DO any of you know GP who say it is impossible to code
consultations, if so how about giving me their name or even better
getting then to keep a list for a few days. The important thing is
they must feel completely free to write what they think.
Particularly if the reason is not to do with morbidity or symptoms.
I guess your all going to tell me this has been done many times
before. If thats the case please tell me. Many thanks for the
bandwidth.
