This wheel has already been invented! The MIQUEST project produced a
methodology to transfer queries written in a proprietary Health Query
Language (HQL) to different GP systems. The same queries can be run
on EMIS and Meditel systems to produce comparable results. Micro-Doc
are currently working on an interpreter and several other suppliers
have expressed an interest which depends on some financial support.
The results of HQL queries are transferred electronically to the
enquirer who can then aggregate them to spreadsheet or database
format.
This project was funded by the Information Management Group of the
NHS and the products are available free of charge to NHS
organisations wishing to use them.
I would be happy to provide further details to the list or via
private email.
