This is an important point, but security is badly handled in GP at the monent
and I wouln't worry greatly. If you have the safeguards that you have listed
then you are doing all that is reasonable. You have to have access to the
data to work on it. One thing that we discovered here in Sheffield that we
were vaguely concerned about was that a patient of ours works for our
supplier. It might be possiblefor him to find out confidential info on his
neighbours in the course of his work. However this is no different from a
situation that has existed for many years where reception staff live and work
in the village.
A survey by Sheffield Health of IT needs in GP highlighted poor security in
the majority of practices looked at.
